CARMEL, Ind. (WISH) — Crooked Stick Golf Club, located just outside of Indianapolis in Carmel, will host the U.S. Senior Open Championship in 2028. It will be the seventh USGA championship held at the club and the first U.S. Senior Open Championship there since 2009.
USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer told WISH-TV/WRTV Sports Director Anthony Calhoun he expects the Indiana community to embrace the championship again. More than 150,000 people attended during the week of the 2009 event, Bodenhamer said.
One player that fans hope to see is 15-time major champion Tiger Woods.
Is Tiger Woods Indy bound?
“Tiger understands his legacy,” Bodenhamer said. “Bob Jones won nine USGA national championships. Tiger Woods has won nine. And to win that 10th, if he could do it at the U.S. Senior Open, he understands what that means. There’s only been two people in the history of our game that have won the U.S. Amateur, U.S. Open and the U.S. Senior Open – Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer. Tiger’s won the Am (Amateur) and the Open. He’s never won the Senior Open, But Tiger’s also won the Junior Am. He’d be the only one ever to do it. So, I guess what I’m trying to say is, it’s important to Tiger. And I would expect that he would be here at Crooked Stick. “
Woods was registered for the 2026 U.S. Senior Open at Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio in July, but did not play in the event.
The 48th U.S. Senior Open will be held at Crooked Stick from June 29 to July 2, 2028.
