Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato Reunite for Rare Beauty’s New Campaign: ‘Still Making Each Other Blush’

More than two decades after Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez first met on the set of Barney & Friends, Lovato and Gomez are reuniting on Rare Beauty’s latest campaign: “Still Making Each Other Blush.”

The two first met in 2002 at age seven while auditioning for Barney & Friends in Texas. They were both cast in the show’s seventh season; this was the beginning of a friendship that followed them through some of Disney Channel’s most memorable years.

The new Rare Beauty line celebrates nearly 25 years of friendship and taps into the nostalgia of a generation that grew up watching the two on screen. Gomez’s career took off after Wizards of Waverly Place (2007-2012), while Lovato was cast in As the Bell Rings before her breakout role in Camp Rock. Afterward, Lovato starred in Sonny With a Chance, while both artists ended up launching music careers in the years to follow.

Then, the two were reunited in 2009 for Disney’s Princess Protection Program – thrilling news for fans who were hoping to see the childhood friends together again.

The new campaign introduces the Delena Soft Pinch Blush Bundle, named after the fan-coined nickname for the duo. For the steal of $50, the set pairs Rare Beauty’s bestselling Soft Pinch Liquid Blush with a Soft Pinch Blush Brush. Gomez wears Hope, a nude mauve shade, while Lovato wears Virtue, which is a beige peach. The two remind us that growing up doesn’t have to mean growing apart– and that two people can take different paths while reconnecting years later.

This collaboration is about more than makeup. “Still Making Each Blush” celebrates female, adult friendships.

“Selena and I have shared a lot of memories over the years since childhood, so being able to connect in this way, in a campaign that feels so nostalgic to both of us, is such a full-circle moment,” Lovato said.

For Lovato, being on set felt like returning to their bedrooms, making YouTube videos and playing with makeup. It felt like girlhood. What a sacred thing to have someone who knows the versions of yourself that existed prior to who you are today.

In our present day, celebrity friendships often are played out under public scrutiny. Their friendship offers almost the opposite: soft, slow, and steady. Gomez echoed Lovato’s sentiment, describing the collaboration as a reminder of their past and an opportunity to celebrate how far they’ve come.

“One and the same…always,” she said. Talk about pulling on heartstrings!

For fans who grew up watching the pair navigate Disney Channel, the campaign welcomes a dose of nostalgia. And for beauty lovers, it could have just been the launch of your new favorite bundle.
