The Portal video viewing wall, that lets people virtually “visit” other spots around the world by viewing though the eight-foot-tall screen, was set to be dismantled and moved from its location outside City Hall on Thursday.
But, according to NBC10 newsgathering partner KYW Newsradio, an effort is underway to prevent the Portal from leaving town.
The Portal — that connects viewers to similar viewing screens in other countries around the world — was initially set to be dismantled at the end of the month. But, that date was seemingly moved up.
According to KYW, a plan was in place to have the Portal shipped to Miami.
But, that has been placed on hold as there are ongoing discussions underway to save the Portal and keep it in place.
The Portal has been in Philadelphia since 2024, and it has been set up at a few locations during its time in the City of Brotherly Love.
Citing Portal CEO Nicolas Klaus, KYW said the situation for the Portal is “dynamic” at this time and more information on what’s next for the video wall are expected to be announced “soon.”
