MacBook Neo’s education price just went up another $50

Remember when the MacBook Neo made its debut way back in March with a base retail price of $599 and a U.S. education price of $499. $499! That didn’t last long, though, because Apple raised prices in June, bumping both the retail and education prices by $100. So students and teachers have had to pay $599 for the Neo since then. Still a good deal, considering how good the laptop is.

However, Apple just raised the education price of the MacBook Neo again. It’s now $649, a mere $50 less than the MSRP. It’s still cheaper than you can find it anywhere else, but man, if you didn’t buy a Neo soon after its initial release, or before the U.S. school year started, you missed out on some real savings.

There is one place where you might find a MacBook Neo at $599: the Apple U.S. Certified Refurbished Store, which has a Blush MacBook Neo with 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD in stock–for now, quantities are limited. As for Amazon, which often has good deals on MacBooks in general, it has the MacBook Neo for $689, a measly $10 savings.

Apple’s fluctuating prices is a little worrisome. A new MacBook Neo is rumored for the first half of 2027, and it doesn’t seem out of the realm of possibility that the price could go up again. After all, there are no signs that the supply chain problems at the root of the price increases are getting better. Even if the situation improves, there’s no reason to believe that prices will come down quickly—or at all.
