LouCity Is Turning Its Playoff Opener Into a Halloween Party

Posted

Louisville City FC is opening the playoffs Friday night, and it’s giving families a pretty good excuse to start Halloween weekend at the soccer stadium.

LouCity will host Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30, at Lynn Family Stadium in the opening round of the USL Championship Playoffs. And because the match falls on Halloween weekend, the club is turning the night into part playoff game, part Halloween party.

Kids ages 14 and younger who show up in costume will receive free admission, and trick-or-treating begins on the stadium concourse at 5:30 p.m., with bags provided.

The festivities start even earlier. Gates open at 5 p.m. with happy hour specials on beer, Pepsi products, and Fireball, while the first 2,000 fans through the gates can pick up a complimentary LouCity scarf courtesy of Pepsi.

Families looking to keep dinner simple can also grab a $19.99 family pack at the value cart behind Section 228. It comes with four hot dogs, four Pepsi products, popcorn, and pretzel bites.

And fans will want to get to their seats before kickoff. Zambelli Fireworks will go off during the player walkout, adding a little extra spectacle before a match where the stakes are already plenty high.

LouCity enters the postseason as the Eastern Conference’s No. 4 seed, with Pittsburgh at No. 5. The top eight clubs from the Eastern and Western conferences qualified for the single-elimination tournament, with the top four in each conference earning the right to host in the quarterfinal round.

For Louisville, playoff soccer has become something close to an annual tradition. The club is making an unprecedented 12th consecutive appearance in the USL Championship Playoffs and has built one of the league’s most decorated postseason histories along the way.

LouCity won consecutive league championships in 2017 and 2018, along with Eastern Conference titles in 2019 and 2022. The club also claimed the Players’ Shield as the league’s regular-season champion in 2024 and 2025 and added its first USL Cup earlier this season.

If LouCity advances Friday, home-field advantage in future rounds will continue to go to the better-seeded team.

The rest of the postseason runs through November, with the conference semifinals scheduled for Nov. 6-8, the conference finals Nov. 13-15, and the USL Championship Final set for Nov. 21.

For Friday night, though, the assignment is simple enough. Put on a costume, grab some candy, find your scarf, and settle in for playoff soccer.
