(KRON) -- One person was taken into custody Wednesday amid an Alameda Police Department investigation into multiple reports of a stranger in a vehicle trying to talk to children as they walked to or from school.
“Upon learning of these incidents, APD officers immediately began investigating each report,” police wrote. “Officers also increased patrols along frequently used student routes as a precautionary measure.”
Alameda PD said that while the individual’s intentions were unknown, “the behavior raised concerns.”

Investigators found a home’s security camera that recorded one of the incidents, which provided officers with a vehicle description and led to finding the associated license plate number.
On Wednesday just prior to elementary schools dismissing students, Alameda police learned that the vehicle had entered the city. A be-on-the-lookout advisory was broadcast to officers, and the car was found in 19 seconds near Wilma Chan Way and Marina Village Parkway, APD said.

“The suspect was arrested and transported to Santa Rita Jail,” authorities wrote. “The case has been referred to the Alameda County District Attorney’s Office.”
Authorities in Castro Valley are also investigating a report of "suspicious circumstances involving three juveniles" that occurred on Sunday afternoon in the 22300 block of Center Street. In that incident, an unknown driver followed the children and attempted to get their attention, according to the Alameda County Sheriff's Office.
The kids ran from the area and notified adults about what happened.
"Deputies obtained photographs of the vehicle and driver, and the incident remains under active investigation," the sheriff's office told KRON4 Wednesday.
